Cumberland Island is Georgia’s largest and southernmost barrier island. Pristine maritimeforests, undeveloped beaches and wide marshes whisper the stories of both man and nature. Come walk in the footsteps of early natives, explorers, and wealthy industrialists. Enjoy a ferry ride to the island where a park ranger will discuss the island’s history, the plants, wildlife and marshes. A nature walk around the island is also included for students to collect shells and sharks teeth along the beach.
The Great Okefenokee Swamp, one of America’s most fascinating natural areas, is the largest intact, unfragmented, wilderness Swamp in North America. “Okefenokee,” what Seminoles called “Land of Trembling Earth” is approximately 700 square miles located in the southeast corner of Georgia. During this day trip to the swamp, students will participate in a boat ride, enjoy a train ride, and view a live nature show. A local environmentalist will discuss the wildlife and plant life of the swamp. Snacks and drinks along the way and a boxed lunch all combine to make an educational day to remember.
